Alternative Fuel Vehicles

Alternative Fuels are non-fossil fuels that can be burned in an internal-combustion engine. Common technologies include biodiesel and ethanol, both seen as “green” because carbon dioxide is taken from the air by plants that are then used to make the fuel. This process is described as “carbon neutral”. Another proven technology is hydrogen, which is currently used by a few manufacturers in conventional engines and produces only water as an exhaust gas. Hydrogen can be produced as a green fuel if the energy used to generate it has come from a renewable source. Alternative fuelled vehicles are already here, and can take the form of an easy DIY job for any competent mechanic, or a high-tech prototype by a major car manufacturer.

Acceptable Technologies:

Biodiesel
Bioethanol
Bioalcohol (Butanol and Ethanol)
Hydrogen
Non-fossil Gas (e.g. Methane)
